The Eternal Struggle

This week’s blog is about a subject that deeply divides this nation. Those on one side are sure  that their candidate represents loyalty, honesty, a strong defense, and unconditional love. Those on the other are just as positive that their favorite represents intelligence, independence, self
assurance, and regal manner. My man is in the first camp. I find the other side’s candidate to be aloof, meddlesome, and recreant. I have heard the other side describe my side as stupid, sycophantic, and slobbery. Whom do I speak of? It is not Republican vs Democrat. Tea Party vs Occupy Wall Street? No. Obama vs The House? Hardly. Mitt vs Newt? Truthfully, not that many care. No I speak of the eternal struggle of Dog vs. Cat.

I’m an unabashed dog lover. I have had cats, and while I will grant that they are good companions and are just as loving as a dog, the cat’s love is of a different kind. A dog loves you like he believes you are the center of the universe. A cat loves you like it believes it is the center of the universe.

You hear story after story of a dog intervening to save a family or family member from an intruder. Even the smallest dog will go after an intruder with the intent of driving it away from his master. This point is often used by a child to hoax the parents into getting a puppy. The parents  relent because they know it is true. The cat will run off and hide, or go look  for Lassie to save the day. I do think I heard a tale about a cat waking a family when there was a fire. I am pretty sure that it just wanted someone to let it outside, and saving the family was just incidental.

History is rife with tales of a dog refusing to leave the grave of his fallen master. The dog will lie on the grave, and no amount of coaxing will induce it to leave. The poor animal will starve itself, waiting for his companion to return. A cat will haunt a graveyard only to catch a bird or to meet up with a witch.

View these YouTube videos showing dogs greeting their returning soldiers from overseas.

Now look at the best video I could find of a cat greeting someone.

There is no need to comment, which of course means I will. The difference in the greetings is night and day. Also the motivation is clear. The dogs are ecstatic over the return of their companion. The cat is looking for a hand out.

A dog will bring you a toy so as the two of you can spend some quality time together. Plus, Fido is more that willing to do most of the work. He will do the running and the fetching and bouncing. All you have to do is throw the ball. Your loyal friend does not even hold it against you when you pretend to throw the ball and he chases nothing. The dog is just happy to have your attention for just a few minutes. A cat will bring you a dead mouse and often leave it in a place designed to cause the most shock, possibly resulting in a heart attack and death. The cat finds this hilarious and it is it’s idea of bonding.

A dog is truly happy just to have your attention for a
few seconds, a scratch behind the ears or a pat on the head. He will wait around all day for your return and the pitiful reward he receives for his loyalty. The dog doesn’t hold it against you that you ignore it, don’t play with enough, or walk it enough. The dog things you are the greatest thing on earth. A cat cares only that you feed it and will whine incessantly if you forget. It will likely jump on to your lap uninvited or unannounced so as to demand it’s share of attention. Then it may or may not occupy your lap, letting you stroke it’s fur. When it wants to leave, it cares not a lick about your wants, and just goes.

I, for the life of me can not understand why anyone would chose a cat over a dog. I have searched for an answer and have heard such tendentious and self-serving observations as

“People who like dogs, just like to dominate another living thing”

“Cat people admire the independent nature of a cat”

Cat people are masochists and like pain. The cat will scratch and bite when it does not get its way, and will totally ignore their companion much more often than not. When you call them, looking only to see that they are all right, they are no where to be found. But run the can opener  so they think they are being fed, and it will appear out of nowhere like David Copperfield. Cat people call this "being independent". I call it "denial"

Cat people delude themselves into thinking they like their animal’s independence, right up to the point of having them declawed and walking them on a leach. (Dumbest thing I have seen). They spend countless hours trying to coax love and attention out of their animal. The Cat person will
defend this behavior voraciously, and will be completely resistant to any degree of logic. They act like teenagers or drug addicts in this respect.

As for me, and other Dog People, We've made our decision and chosen our side.  Just give us the simple life. The dog is there when you need it. Your job is to be there when your dog needs you, and to live your life to be the person your dog already thinks you are.

    Why this Blog?

I'm 60, conservative and sincerely hope that my blog can make a difference. I think the Democrat Party has been taken over by America haters, career victims, and those who believe that the federal government should be your daddy. I'm looking to give those who vote for the "D" no matter what, something to think about.
