We will be casting our vote in a handful of days to elect the next President of the United States. This is possibly the most important Presidential election in our generation. This is so because this country is at a crossroads is a number of areas; Foreign Policy, Economy, Constitutional Rights, and Governmental Philosophy.
Those that know me, know I am a hard line conservative. As such the chance of me voting for a Democrat are slimmer than a New York runway model. This year is no exception. I will be voting for John McCain, grudgingly. I don't particularly like McCain's politics. He is much too liberal for my blood. But the alternative, Barack Obama, is so incredibly bad that I can't honestly believe he is a serious candidate. Let alone leading in the polls.
His voting record in Congress, in the three (In three years you don't even know where all the restrooms in Congress are at) years is so far left he has to take a step to the right just to touch Ted Kennedy or John Kerry. That means he has very, very socialist tendencies. Socialism is the anathema of this nation. Socialism means that the government decides what is the best use of the money that you make. I have heard (time and time again) that Obama will cut the taxes of 95% of American tax payers. Yeaaaa, right? Not really. 40% of that pie doesn't pay taxes. They don't make enough money. So how will they get their taxes reduced? By getting a gift of someone else's money. Here in lies the peril of Socialism. Basic economics tells us you get more of what you subsidize and less of what you tax. When you subsidize 40% of the people, soon it will be 50% of the people. Everyone wants free money. Where is that money coming from? The top 5%. But most of that top 5% (who already pay 60% of the taxes!) are not rich. They are small business owners. So tax them more and soon they have to make decisions not to expand or to lay off workers. They make less money, so they pay less taxes. But the government needs all of that tax revenue, so what will it do? Raise taxes. On who? The next 5%, or 10%. The cycle continues. How long before you are considered "rich"?
This is being generous. I don't for one minute believe that Obama will reduce anyone's taxes. If you believe a campaign promise from a far left liberal, that tells you he will reduce your taxes, you deserve to be lied to. You are an idiot. What in his record would lead you to believe that he would reduce taxes? Not his voting record. He has yet to meet a tax he did not like. His "credibility"? Puh-leeze! He promised not to opt out of public funding for his campaign. As soon as it became apparent he could get more money through private fund raising, he opted out. When the Wright thing blew up, he said he could no more disown Jeremiah Wright than he could his own grandmother. Not two weeks later he disowned Wright and insinuated his grandma was a racist.
Speaking of Jeremiah Wright, how do you justify sitting in a church for 20 years listening to that racist diatribe. He didn't just listen, he chose Wright to perform his wedding ceremony and to baptize his children. What does that say about his judgment? Let me clue you in. It says he is extremely ambitious and has little scruples. I don’t think Obama is racist, at least not anymore than the next guy. But I do think he will attach himself to any person or idea that will further his career. He chose Wright to ingratiate himself with the black community in Chicago.
You want more? When he launched his political career; it was in the home of William Ayers, a confessed and unrepentant domestic terrorist. The only thing Ayers has said he was sorry for (& and his bombs killed people) was that he didn't bomb more. Do I think Obama is a terrorist and would condone this type of behavior? No, but again Ayers was in a position to help him, and he unapologetically accepted his help.
Then there is the judgment shown in his Illinois Senate career. Obama voted "present" (which means Not Yes, Not No) 130 times. He did so on some very interesting issues. One was one a bill to notify parents if their under age child was going into a clinic for an abortion. I can understand (if not agree) with both sides of that issue. So why didn't Obama just pick a side? Because taking the coward's way out was the most politically expedient thing to do. He did the same thing on a bill concerning late term abortion. The abortion issue is touchy one, but the vast, vast, majority of people agree that killing a fetus in the third (and even late third) term is murder. So again, if Obama agrees with this why not just vote for it. Or if he doesn't, vote against it? Again, political expediency. I did some checking, and there is no "Present" button in the Oval Office.
Finally, let’s speak about Foreign Policy. During the Democratic primaries his opponents, who included his VP choice Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, all said he was unqualified. He lacked experience. He proved this by saying he would meet the radical leaders of the world with no preconditions. That means on their terms. The US is the most powerful nation on the earth. We do not have to meet a leader of a rouge nation on their terms. This does not give them any incentive to change their ways and try to get along with the rest of the world. You give a mouse a cookie; he will come back looking for a glass of milk. You give a dictator an unrestricted meeting with the President; he will want you to change your policy. Neville Chamberlin did that with Hitler. He came back with a piece of paper giving us "Peace in our time". We got the worst war this planet has ever seen.
Finally there is the Iraq War. We can debate the merits of if we should have gone there or not. Personally, I think we should have. But, once you commit soldiers lives and our own treasure, you win. You do not tell your enemy that "Hey, we are pulling out in 16 months. Just wait until then and you can do whatever you want" George Bush is taking a lot of heat for holding to this. Obama has said he would take the politically expedient way out.
I listened to the debates. I heard Obama say time and time again that the focus should be in Afghanistan. Why? His reasoning seems to be that the Taliban is getting stronger. You don't hear that in the news. All I keep hearing is that we bombed this hut or destroyed that car and Taliban were killed. He states that he would strike into Pakistan to get Bin Laden, if Pakistan would not help. I want Obama dead as much as the next guy. But, if you notice he is not much of a threat. He has been effectively neutralized. Why would we want to raid a country we are diplomatically trying to ally ourselves with, that possesses a nuclear weapon and an unstable government. Let Obama die in his cave, without becoming a martyr. Is that unpopular? Yes, but it takes political courage to follow that course. Obama has none of that.
I know all of this is probably moot. McCain seems to be fading fast. I just want anyone who reads this to realize that Obama will say or do anything to get elected. Then once in, he is going to do everything in his power to turn the US into a socialist nation and a weaker nation. If higher taxes and less freedom appeal to you, vote for Obama. God help us, if he gets elected with Congress in his pocket.
