Unless you have been trying, you probably have not been following this closely. Our leftstream media is doing it’s best, once again, to protect and cheerlead for the Democrat in office. But in a nutshell this is what happened. My opinions are in italics.
Sometime prior to February 21st it was discovered that Afghan prisoners being held at the Parwan Detention Facility, on Bagram Air Base in the Parwan province of Afghanistanhad been using the prison library to pass extremist messages amongst themselves They did this, in one manner, by writing these messages in the margins of the books. In addition to normal books the Korans in the library were also used, desecrating them in the process. A statement by Gen Cartsen Jacobsen in a Pentagon briefing stated that a large part of the library would be destroyed to remove the hate speech
The Korans were segregated by the American soldiers ordered to do the clean up, and put in an office for safekeeping. Thus treating these religious books with much more respect than the so called Muslims being held in the prison.
On February 21st, on orders from their superiors, five unidentified American soldiers began the destruction of this material. The Korans were not supposed to be part of this, but an error made and these books were included. All current investigations have concluded this was an unfortunate accident.
Personally I don’t much give a damn what the Muslims think about us burning these books. They had already been desecrated and needed to be disposed of. I am regularly assaulted by images of the American flag burned and our President either hanged or burned in effigy. These images have transcended all presidential administrations and it makes my sick no matter who is in office to see it. Where is the respect for my (and millions of other Americans) beliefs?
This accident would have gone unnoticed had several Afghan civilians not been part of the work detail. When they discovered the Korans, they pulled them out of the fire and the next day the partially burned books were in the hands of Afghans outside the base. It is not clear if the subsequent demonstrations were spontaneous or organized. But, as these books were sent
Everyone from Obama on down began to issue apologies for this mistake. A civilized society would have used this as an opportunity for dialogue, to try to learn from this mistake. The response from the street Afghanis were to riot and target Americans for assassination.
On Feb 26th, two American officers were shot in the back of the head at the Afghan Interior Ministry, by an Afghan policeman. Our leftstream Obama-cheerleading media reported that two American soldiers were killed. They allowed the American public to assume that demonstrators had somehow killed two soldiers. Do you think the American public would react favorably if it was reported these American officers were executed by a member of the Afghanistan government? I had to find this information from a British source. After these killings we received no apology from their government, nor did Obama ask for one.
The riots continue with dozens of Afghani’s dead, hundreds injured, and 6 American’s killed. On or about March 2nd Obama sends a three page letter that has only partially been released to the American public. In it he says “The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible.” What the hell does that mean? If it was inadvertent, an accident, what are you going to hold them responsible for? Show me in the Uniform Code of Military Conduct, where it is some sort of crime to burn a book, even the Koran, especially when you are under orders to do so. The New
York Post reports that these soldiers could lose rank! Are you kidding me? This is the support that Obama gives the men and women who are putting their lives on the line for his failed foreign policy?
Today it is reported that a lone American soldier walked off the base and killed 16 Afghani civilians, in an unprovoked attack. This man is obviously disturbed. He snapped and the result is tragic. I can only help but wonder if the lack of support in the Koran burning incident, and this
administration’s failure to let our soldiers fight this war contributed to this tragedy.
I’ve had my fill. I no longer see any reason to be over in Afghanistan. The President and I now
share some common ground. We should be out. He never should have tried his version of The Surge, he never should have announced his time table to get out, and when Osama Bin Ladin was killed he should have declared success and begun immediate withdrawal. There is nothing that we will accomplish, because this administration has no clue as to what they want to do, and are only getting good men killed with their incompetent handling of the situation.
Once we begin to take the troops out President Obama should amend President Gerald Ford’s Executive Order #11905 that bans political assassinations. That order, which bans the USfor targeting leaders of foreign nations, should be amended to exempt any leader of a nation that sponsors or hosts terrorists bend on targeting the United States. Would that open up a playground of reasons to attack foreign leaders based on shaky grounds? Yes it would. So? The
pendulum has swung way to far the other way. Americans, both military and civilian, are attacked with impunity by one militant group or another, all over the globe, including Mexico. It’s high time that countries begin respecting America again.
Will Obama do this, or anything else except apologize? Nope. That’s why he needs to go. He’s not only an economic fool; he’s a foreign policy disaster. But, he gives a good speech, doesn’t he?
