But, the more I though about the more I couldn’t let Joe off so easy. Because not only was his smirking, laughing, and gesticulating unprofessional and immature, he sat there and lied to the American people, and only talk radio is calling him on it.
Let’s start with this quote after the moderator asked about the killing of Chris Stephens in Libya and Paul Ryan pointing out that the embassy had inadequate (to say the least) security.
“Well, we weren’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again.” ---Joe Biden
First, they need to be told that on the anniversary of 9-11, the first anniversary of 9-11 after the killing of Bin Laden, a fact Obama trumpets every time foreign policy is brought up, in a city with known Al Qaeda activity, that beefed up security is needed? Who shows these mental giants where the bathrooms are at? Perhaps, instead of going on Letterman or The View Obama should attend the security briefings that he routinely ignores.
But, it doesn’t stop at incompetence. The very day before the Vice Presidential debates a congressional hearing was conducted on the actions in Benghazi and Eric Nordstrom, the former chief security officer for the American Embassy in Libya said that;
“his request to extend the deployment of an American military team was thwarted by the State Department’s Department of Diplomatic Security.”
The White House claims it wouldn’t have done any good. I so trust their judgment on this matter over the guy in charge of keeping those American’s safe.
Staying on the subject of the tight grasp the Obama administration has on the Middle East, we have this quote from Joe Biden.
“When my friend talks about fissile material, they have to take this highly enriched uranium, get it from 20 percent up, then they have to be able to have something to put it in. There is no weapon that the Iranians have at this point”
Biden is conceding that Iran is going to get to the point of having the fissionable material. This is a complete failure of the Obama administration. Obama has talked
As for not having anything to put it in; that is laughable. North Korea already sold Iran missiles that very likely can be used to deliver a nuclear warhead. This happened two years ago. If those missiles could not get the job done, their design was certainly closed enough that bridging the gap is much easier than getting the nuclear material to put in them.
And if that weren’t bad enough, Iran is one of, if not the leading sponsors of terrorism against the United States. Creating a dirty bomb, that could be brought in to the US very easily, might not level a major city, but it could render very large sections uninhabitable and kill thousands.
Let’s move on to domestic issues.
“And by the way, they talk about this Great Recession if it fell out of the sky, like, oh my goodness, where did it come from? It came from this man voting to put two wars in a credit card, to at the same time put a prescription drug benefit on the credit card, a trillion- dollar tax cut for a — very wealthy. I was there. I voted against him. I said, no, we can't afford that.”
I’m not going to take the time to challenge his assertion that somehow this recession was the fault of the previous administration. Obama’s whole campaign of 2008 and his presidency has can be summed up with a take off of the desk plaque of Harry Truman “The Buck Stops with Bush”
What I am going to take down are the myriad of lies Biden manages to cram in that second sentence.
Two wars on a credit card. Biden is referring to Iran and Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan was authorized by Military Force Authorization Act passed on September 14, 2001. It passed by Unanimous Consent. This is done when the Senate leadership believes that a bill will not be challenged. So there was no formal roll call vote. 98 Senators, including Joe Biden, were there. He did not object. Here is Joe Biden's voting record
The war on Iraq was authorized by the “Use of Military Force against Iraq” approved on Oct 11, 2002. There was an official vote taken and Joe Biden voted for it. Joe Biden even voted for the Patriot Act on Oct 25, 2001. Sounds to me like he co-signed for that credit card.
The prescription drug benefit Biden is referring to is the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act. Biden voted for the Senate version of it on June 27, 2003.
I think the trillion dollar tax cut Biden is referring to has to do with the tax rate cut legislation that was passed during the Bush administration. Biden did vote against that, but those tax rate cuts were across the board. On a percentage basis, the poor and middle class saw their rates trimmed more than the “wealthy”
I could go on and on. But, I’ve made my point. Joe Biden was sent up on stage, I mean, sat at the table, with one purpose; make the Republicans appear to more unsavory than Obama. And to that, Joe had to counter, with his gestures, mannerism, Joker smile, and deceitful words, everything, almost to Paul Ryan’s thank you to the moderator, he said.
To that end, I offer up, free of charge, the new Obama-Biden slogan.
“We suck, but the other guys are worse”
