Right now the Democratic Party is the party of victims and Santa Claus. Their true believers are gay rights activists, environmental activists, tort lawyers, labor unions, abortion activists, and those who believe that it is the government’s job to provide cradle to grave security, without want, to the masses. Until Barack Obama’s presidency the leftstream media has not only done their part to conceal this by trying to portray the Democrats as mainstream, but also by carrying the water for them to enact socialist policies.
But, with the election of Barrack Obama the majority of America, which still lean to the right, by the way, was slapped in the face. Not only by the policies proposed and enacted, but also by the near fanatical cheerleading of the biggest media outlets, and by the unanimity of the Democrats in both houses of Congress. It was a real eye opener to witness the machinations that were necessary to get ObamaCare passed (5), with not one Republican voting for it (3,4), and the majority of Americans against it (12).
There were the bailouts of GM and Chrysler, which circumvented the bankruptcy rules and gave the United Auto Workers union a much larger share of the assets than they should have been legally allowed, while at the same time taking money from the bondholders who were entitled to those same assets.(7)
We have the National Labor Relations Board’s persecution (8) of Boeing for having the audacity to open a manufacturing plant in the right-to-work state, South Carolina. (And you wonder why “jobs” are such a problem with this administration)
Of course we can’t forget the Stimulus Bill that wasted 787 billion dollars (1,2) to prevent unemployment from going over 8%, and then we watched as it rose to well over 9%. At the same time Obama took a (record) 340 billion dollar federal deficit and increasing it by nearly 5 fold in just two years.
The American Idol crowd is usually oblivious to politics, but even this has gotten their attention and ire. With no signs of this abating it seems obvious to me that some Republican will be in the White House by the time Cupid arrives in 2013. Obama is much too arrogant and narcissistic to change his path. But after the 2012 elections, that is moot. Then the trouble will begin for the Republicans. The Democrat Party is nothing, if not resilient. I think that their obvious move is to put back on the conservative mask that Bill Clinton wore in the 1990s. It was only through pretending that he was a “moderate” that he was able to convince enough (though never above 50% (10)) to elect himself president. After showing his true colors in the 24 months after he was elected in 1992, the American people rose up and gave control of the House to the Republicans; something that the US had not seen in over 40 years.
Maybe the Trojan Horse of 2016 will be Hillary Clinton. She already has moved as far out of the limelight and away from the spotlight on President Obama, as the sitting Secretary of State can. She had said she has no plans to run for President in 2012, nor to continue on as SOS regardless of the election results (9). I, for one, am counting on Barack to be the Democratic nominee in 2016. There is a big mess to clean up, and just four years won’t be nearly enough for Rick Perry and a Republican Congress to get it done. The last thing they will need is another Democrat sporting a “moderate” façade to get in the way.
