Frank and Ellen Thomas Family Portrait
The picture on the left is a copy of the original portrait taken about 1900. Special thanks to Vickie Sloan Holbrook, who provided the correct names. Her Grandfather, William H Thomas, told his daughter, Helen, who wrote the names on the back of the photo in Vickie's possesion.
Ellen Akers Thomas, my great-grandmother, lived only another five years aftter this was done. She passed away about 1905. Ellen was the daughter of Burrell Akers, a former private in the 22nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. He fought in the Battle of Vicksburg and was wounded. He was later given a medical discharge (eye trouble) and lived out his years in Carter County, KY.
The picture on the right is an unknown artist's rendering of the original picture. I would love to know who did this, as they have a lot of talent. Our family owes this person a debt.
All family comments and stories are welcome. I will post them here, below. Also if you have any pictures you would like to share with the rest of the family, send them to me. I will give you full credit!
Thanks----Bill Kretzer

I also have this picture. Papaw told Aunt Helen, as she wrote,
The back row Left to Right: Annie, Della and Mary.
Middle row Left to Right: Frank, William H. (Bill, my papaw) and Ellen. Front row Left to Right: Minnie, Mimmie and George( on lap).

Thanks Vickie, I’ll make the corrections to the pictures. I had a feeling I didn’t have these names right.

I can't believe my eyes! This is my grandmother Annie Thomas Messer Church and my Thomas Family connection! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this photo. I've been trying to research my grandmother's side of the family off and on over the years. This is fantastic. If you have any other information/photos of the Thomas Familly posted above, please contact me. It would be so much appreciated that I can't even explain.

Hi Anna,
Sorry for being slow to respond. Thanks for your kind words and I am very happy that I could help with your family research. I'm not sure how much help I can be on the THOMAS side. I really haven't done a lot, except to gather some names, dates, and places. Here is a link the public family tree I posted, beginning with your grandmother.

If you have any specific questions, ask and I will do my best to answer. I am in an "off" period of research right now. I am sure you know how that goes. But, I did write a biography on Burrell Akers, our grandfather, that I really should get posted to my site.
Anyway, I am glad I could help.
