My Almost 50th Birthday Party
Margo told me, after the fact, that she had been planning this for over a year. My best friend, Dave Wolf, informed me that it was an obvious sign of old age that she was able to sneak this by me. I'm afraid he may be right.
The genesis of this party, aside from the fact that my darling wife wanted to commemorate my 50th birthday, was that we will be very busy, and likely out of town, for both weekends around my actual 50th birthday, next year. My aunt, Sister Stephanie will be celebrating her Golden Jubilee on June 30th, next year. This event marks the 50th anniversary that she took her vows as a Carmelite Sister. Margo and I plan to be there to celebrate with her. Then, almost right after, Margo and I will be going to Gettysburg to witness the battle reenactment for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
So, with that in mind, Margo has spent many months planning and coordinating this. She got me. I had no clue this was coming. I did have a small hint when Aunt Prim posted a message to Margo asking "How many she should set up for?" But, I blew it off. Sherlock Holmes has nothing to fear from me.
Speaking of Aunt Prim and Uncle Donnie (Unc), I want to specially thank them. They, generously, both offered the use of their home and grounds, plus taking a weekend off during the busy season, to make this happen. There are just no words that can express my thanks. They are always there for the family and we are all blessed to have them in our lives.
I also want to thank everyone who came and those who couldn't make it. I was very touched that you all would forsake a Saturday afternoon just to get together to make me feel special and loved.
And to my quick departure. I generally don't talk about work much with Margo. It's boring and I try to leave it at work. As such, I did a poor job of telling her about working this weekend. She knew only that my company would be taking on the Arby's account in July. She had no idea of how much work (18 truckloads of product new product; getting it IDed, received and put away) that there would be, and especially that I would likely work the weekend. After 27 years with the company that is unusual, and she was counting on that to set the date for this party. So, after I told her (a week ago) that I was working all day and night Saturday, she was scrambling and hoping that the story of the Family BBQ at Uncle Donnie and Aunt Prim's was going to be enough to tear me away. It almost wasn't. Things did go well enough that I could leave for a couple of hours. But, there was plenty to be done, so even then I had to return to work. For those who want to feel sorry for me or give a sarcastic "Poor Baby" I started at 7:30 that morning, and I left for home at 9:15 that night. The hour and change that I got to spend with you all was heaven sent. When I got back to work the stress and worry had disappeared. Exhaustion would not be chased away, but I did sleep soundly.
Attendees: Don and Prim Schenfeld, Ken Green, Doug and Brenda Dean, Tonya, Bella, and Darren Schaul, Misty, Tim and Drake Warembourg, Dominic Warembourg, Shelby Ford, Vannah Ford, Vicky Schenfeld, Jerry and Nedra Schenfeld, Min and Dennis Norton, Stephanie Pollard, Larry and Angela Pollard, Dave and Kim Wolf, Darrin, Linda, and Tanner Kretzer, Shasta and Maraelee Kretzer, Sally, Chuck, and Cort Cunningham, Shane Chiquito, Chezarre Torres, Alianna Chiquito, Jayme and Pam Kretzer, Jolene, Randy, Jaiden, and Devon Yager, Jessi Kretzer, Peter Lupfer, and Her Deviousness, my dear wife, Margo Kretzer.
I hope I didn't miss anyone, and again, THANK YOU all for coming!!
